The 12 Core Concepts

The National Child Traumatic Stress Network (www.nctsn.org) developed 12 core concepts for understanding traumatic stress responses in childhood. These core concepts can help caregivers, providers, educators, and others better comprehend the experiences youth have when they are exposed to trauma. The Core Concepts can help carers understand the myriad ways in which childhood trauma exposure can reverberate across individuals, settings, and systems surrounding youth.
