This session is designed to provide a better understanding of grief and loss in students and to explore interventions that providers can use to support grief recovery. This session will explain the foundational principles and COVID-19 specific considerations about grief and loss. We will review grief indicators in students as well as general strategies with a focus on the developmental stage for helping them grieve.

As an extension to Part 1, we will focus on ways to communicate empathy and support students’ grief journey in action. We will identify common barriers to providers communicating empathy to those who are grieving, invite all to reflect on our own barriers, and discuss possible ways to overcome those barriers.

Session faculty provide clinical training on grief related evidence based or culturally defined practices. Hear from faculty who are contributing to the grief counseling field through equitable research design and implementation, and share new practices that are timely for the populations you are serving.
